Anchored in Montreal since 2001. Multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, Wesli has been crowned “The strongest world music creature Montreal presently has to offer internationally...” La Presse. Be it in an acoustic trio format (guitar, voice and percussion) or with his big band (seven on stage), Wesli consistently delivers a rich, festive and uniquely engaging sound by fusing dancehall, afrobeat, rara, kompa, funk, merengue and jazz. He conquers the heart of his audience through universal messages of hope, truth and peace.
Born in Haiti, Wesli built his first guitar out of an old NGO- provided oil can and nylon shoelace when he was just eight years old. Coming from a family of 8 children where music was a daily food for the soul, it became second nature to him, a unique and vital way out of the violence and misery found in the surrounding ghetto. Wesli’s musical journey started in the gospel choir of his local church and then he adopted the guitar as his main instrument. Ever since, Wesli has worked relentlessly at perfecting his art.
In Canada, Wesli formed a band and while performing at various festivals, he began to grab people's attention due to his unique talent. He has earned the following accolades: Radio-Canada Revelation 2009-2010 / Babel Music Med 2010 Award in France / Galaxie Rising Star 2011 in Ontario.
To date, Wesli has released four albums and many have appeared in many 'Best of the Year's" lists like:
- Top 10 World Albums on iTunes Canada (ImmiGrand #1 and Ayiti Étoile Nouvelle #7)
- ADISQ Gala Nomination – Best World Music Album of the Year 2012 & 2015
- Top 25 Best Album of the Year 2011
- Top 3 World Music Album of the Year (Liberté Dans le Noir)
- Canadian Folk Music Award Nomination – World Music Album of the Year 2009 (Kouraj).
Wesli is leaving no doubt that he is a star in the making.
